ROTARY IN HEALTH ACTION

The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin has a long established close relationship with the Anuban Ban Nongkhon School, around 10 kilometres from central Hua Hin.  That location falls just outside the Hua Hin Municipality ‘funding zone’ which means securing funding and access to many vital services is often very difficult.

During the weekend of 25th and 26th March, the focus of a project based at the school and coordinated by Rotary, has provided family members of the school community with access to important health assessments.

This has been a joint project with volunteers from the Hua Hin Bangkok Hospital, the Spine Clinic and Rotarians.

Doctors from the Bangkok Hospital provided consultation to parents and their kids who often lack the confidence to approach health providers about some of the most basic medical issues.  Apart from advice about how to better manage their health, a slightly ‘hidden agenda’ was to let these families know that consultation with a doctor need not be such a scary experience.

Additionally staff from the Hua Hin Spine Clinic offered osteopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture and physiotherapy attention to a steady stream of adults.  Spine Clinic co-founder Henrik Fagersson says the presenting problems often related to lower back issues due to lifestyle issues, with even a brief treatment session bringing some relief and a smile on the face of the grateful recipients.

Morning and afternoon consultations have been offered on both days of the ‘Rotary in Health Action’ project at the school with free food and refreshments for all as yet another great example of Rotary at work in the community.

President Phil Lawrence added his thanks to the many volunteers for freely giving their time and access to their expertise during this most worthwhile project.
