HM King Prajadhipok or Rama VII (1893–1941), had a fondness of sports which began when he was quite young and studying at Eton College in England.
The sports he favored were tennis and golf. He would play golf for exercise, enjoyed watching sports and later accepted patronage of sports association, including the Thai Golf Association.
As Hua Hin’s Klai Kangwon Palace was built by King Rama VII in 1926, he often was in residence at the Royal Palace and able to spend time playing golf at the nearby Royal Hua Hin Golf Course.
The course was opened in 1923, with the standing Royal Sala behind the main clubhouse, named in his honour as a feature of the course which is now approaching a centenary year.
