PAIR OF WILD ELEPHANTS BLAMED FOR ATTACKS ON PALA-U VILLAGERS

Two wild elephants, described as a mother and young male calf have been blamed for two incidents resulting in one death and a second serious injury to villagers at Huai Sat Yai, near to Pala-U.

In the first incident, earlier this month, a 17 year old male was found near to his motorcycle, apparently attacked by elephants with fatal injuries to his body.

More recently a 57 year old farmer suffered serious facial, abdominal and leg injuries after an unexpected encounter with the pair of elephants and being knocked to the ground at 6 AM near to his home.

The Hua Hin Sheriff has visited the scenes and the second injured man in intensive care in hospital and asked villagers to be vigilant as efforts are being made to move the two elephants thought to be responsible away from the area.

National park officials have been carrying out a surveillance of wild elephants in the area where crop damage has been caused by elephants in the dry season as they seek out the crops of the villagers, especially durian plantations near to national park borders.
