The Southern Spectacled Langur, a mammal endemic to Prachuap Khiri Khan, has been chosen as a mascot to promote tourism in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Characteristically friendly, mischievous and shy, the langur is common in many areas from high mountains to coastal forests and islands. It inhabits forests with large trees. which is a general geography of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
Mr. Sathien Charoen Rian, the Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, revealed the mascot choice at a meeting of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Tourism Development Committee after discussions about guidelines for promoting tourism in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The distinctive character was said to match the character of the people of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

With both the Amazing City of Three Bays event and the Red Cross Fair 2022 now taking place from 1st – 10th April, the governor said that the official design and naming contest will be held during this festival. The initial design is a cartoon character with a pineapple-patterned Hawaiian shirt playing water sports.
Initially called “Nong Khang Waen” the mascot will be introduced to the people of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province for the first time at the Prachuap Khiri Khan Tourism Fair. Suitable designs submitted will be considered with responses from voting and via social media channels and publicised at schools for children and youth to be involved in the naming and mascot design process.

Southern spectacled lemurs have distinctive features with white circles around the eyes. Their legs and tail are lighter in color than their back. There is a variety of coat colors, including dark gray and brown. Younger spectacled lemurs have a golden yellow fur.
Lemurs can be found in many areas from high mountains to coastal forests and islands. It inhabits forests with large trees. Their favorite foods are leaves and young shoots. This species of lemurs is not used to humans and tend to flee when disturbed. Older lemurs sleep on the branches to guard against dangers.
