Prime Minister Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has commended village health volunteers for their significant role in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and improving the Thai people’s quality of life.
The Prime Minister presented 17 awards to outstanding village health volunteers at the national level, on the occasion of National Public Health Volunteer Day 2022.
The award presentation aims to honor village health volunteers nationwide and boost their morale.At the ceremony, he stated that 1.05 million village health volunteers across the country is a major force in developing primary health care in the country.
Thailand has been able to manage the COVID-19 situation effectively, with the help of village health volunteers, who have worked with devotion. They have earned recognition and praise from the global community, as well.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul thanked the Prime Minister for placing importance on village health volunteers. He said that village health volunteers are considered a mechanism in the people’s sector and serve as a foundation for Thailand’s public health.
This network, he said, has been working with the Ministry of Public Health for more than 44 years now. It provides knowledge and promotes self-reliance in healthcare among local people.
Village health volunteers have joined the Ministry of Public Health’s family care team and public healthcare workers in an efficient manner. They undertake health surveys, collect data, maintain family health records, and carry out disease prevention campaigns to support the public health authorities.
