A survey conducted by the Pollution Control Department has pinpointed the best destinations in Thailand this year based on their beauty and state of the environment. “The project aims to serve as a database for related agencies and help them in policy planning,” the department’s director-general Atthaphol Charoennchansa said on Tuesday.
The Department has a mission to monitor the quality of the environment and report on the country’s environmental quality management.
The environmental quality audit in 2021 has focused on four aspects of the environment, with: the top five locations listed in each category.
1) beaches with the best sea water quality,
2) freshwater sources with the best water quality,
3) provinces with the best air quality, and
4) clean provinces in terms of waste management.
Mr. Atthaphon said that the Top Five beaches with the best sea quality are Ban Krut Beach, Ao Manao Beach, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Lamai Beach, Chaweng Beach, Maenam Beach, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province.
Top Five Freshwater sources with the best water quality are the Upper Tapi River. Nakhon Si Thammarat Province Upper Phetchaburi River Phetchaburi Province, Nong Han Province, Sakon Nakhon Province Kwai Noi River Kanchanaburi and Li River, Lamphun Province
Top Five Provinces with the best air quality are Yala Province, Satun Province, Narathiwat Province Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Songkhla Province, and Phuket Province.
Top Five Clean Provinces for Waste Management were named as Bangkok. Nonthaburi Province, Lamphun Province, Phuket Province and Yasothon Province
Atthaphol Charoenchansa has asked that during this New Year for tourists to cooperate by taking care of the environment. That means reducing the amount of waste, reducing the use of plastic bags, sorting waste before disposing and waste disposal in bins or containers. Additionally, containers should be made from natural materials instead of styrofoam boxes and plastic bags. He asked tourists to strictly follow the rules of natural tourist attractions.
