Thousands of local people have lined the roadside in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi to pay homage to a barefoot monk walking from Phuket to Nakhon Phanom a distance of approximately 1,500 kilometres.
Many had waited for hours just to be blessed for a brief moment with this incredible man who took the time to bless everyone that sat on the curbside. These people donating thousands of packs of water, picked up by the many vehicles following the walking monk. In the post-covid era, this was an uplifting spiritual renewal for many.
The Mayor of Hua Hin was amongst crowds who waited for Luang Ta Bunchun Panyawutho, or Phra Thudong Sai Pai, 73 years old, as he passed through Hua Hin, then on to Cha-Am.
At a young age, he was a soldier, recruited and recruited to fight in the Vietnam War era. After passing special battle training, he was discharged, then married and fathering four children.
Then he asked his family for their approval for him to be ordained as a monk, because he felt the need to find the truth of life. “I wanted to seek peace and study the Dharma.”
He spent four years in a temple in the forest on the Phuphan mountain in Sakon Nakhon before moving to Nakhon Phanom province.
He says he doesn’t fear being sick because “I give up everything., I just want to access the truth. When returning to my hometown, family and the community are very happy. Everyone makes merit; especially after seeing the news on social media.”
