The Royal Coast Review first met Will Robinson at the 2020 Bangkok release of the musical video ‘Where the Eagles Fly’, a production by The Isan Project launched to pay tribute to the British hero of the dramatic Tham Luang Cave rescue, Vern Unsworth.
This was our introduction to the creativity and musical production skills of Will Robinson and his ongoing exploration of the sounds and sights of northern Thailand; the Isan Project.
However apart from spending a significant amount of his time in Chiang Mai, Will regards Hua Hin as home as we discovered during a later interview with him at his home base; a very desirable Hillside Hamlet pool villa.
What followed in late March this year was Hua Hin’s exclusive preview of the Isan Project production. ‘This is the Moment’, was also a preview of a new tourism concept as a new song to promote Thailand.
‘This is the Moment’, co-written by Daniel Ryan, featuring vocals by Disney’s Sonna Rele who had a smash hit with ‘’Strong” from the soundtrack of Cinderella and Erik Hargrove as the percussionist who is best known for the years he spent performing all over the world with the late great James Brown.
Previous productions of the Isan Project have featured Mor Lam traditions and the beauty of the northern Thailand countryside, but in recent times his creative talents have been turned towards a broader tourism focus. This includes collaborations with tourism bodies to promote destination Thailand as the nation readies for the return international travellers.
Since early April, Will and his production crew have been visiting around 18 destinations, including around the Royal Coast, capturing some amazing images for a four minute video to be set to his evocative melodies and lyrics.
“It’s great to be promoting Thailand and especially Prachuap Khiri Khan. Wat Tang Sai is an amazing temple, one of my favorites in Thailand and Hua Hin has a beautiful Royal coastline, I think I’ve managed to connect my music with these wonderful places”.
He describes the trip as “the journey of a lifetime’’, including two months exploring Phuket, quipping that the crew had discovered ‘’more exotic locations than a 70’s Bond movie!’’
‘This is the Moment’ is much more than just an amazing musical video production, but to become symbolic of the rebirth of Thailand tourism. With the months from July being pivotal to that rebirth, the release of this video, with a link below, couldn’t have a been timelier stimulus.
