ONLY FRENCH AND CHINESE GOVTS INTERESTED IN VACCINATING THEIR CITIZENS IN THAILAND

The French embassy In Bangkok has announced it will provide free vaccines for French nationals in Thailand aged over 55. They have partnered with hospitals in eight areas in Thailand, including Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Khon Kaen, Koh Samui, Phuket, and Udon Thani.

Chinese citizens living in Thailand are already being vaccinated as part of China’s global campaign to inoculate its nationals living and working abroad. China also donated 500,000 vaccine doses to Thailand.

This response to the needs of French and Chinese citizens in Thailand is in stark contrast to other nations with no such deal being struck and with their citizens dependent on the goodwill of the Thai government.

A spokesperson of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok had said that the State Department does not provide direct medical care to private citizens abroad.

That comment echoes a response from the Australian Embassy.  “The Australian Embassy won’t be involved in delivering vaccines to Australians in Thailand. Australians here “(Thailand) and in other countries around the world may be covered by the vaccine rollout program in their current location.”

ONLY FRENCH AND CHINESE GOVTS INTERESTED IN VACCINATING THEIR CITIZENS IN THAILAND

The Australian government has given Thailand 68 million baht to support Thailand’s vaccine program and to help Thailand vaccinate the country faster but without consideration of the needs of Australian citizens here.

In response to the French and Chinese announcements, ex-pats from various nations have shown both their support for the move as well as displeasure about other countries not providing such assistance for their citizens in Thailand.

“How embarrassing for the Australian government who are donating $68M vaccine to Thailand without any concern for Australian Expats living/working in Thailand; disgraceful.”

“Maybe time for other Governments to step up to the line and ensure their Nationals receive the vaccine, leaving the locally sourced vaccines for the Thai people.”

“I hope that it can generate such positive actions from other foreign embassies in Thailand.”

“Meanwhile, The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok is pretending that Americans aren’t pissed off at being forgotten by a government that is handing out vaccines to everyone but their own citizens living abroad.”

“A stunning example for other countries to follow.”
