HUGE HAUL OF COUNTERFEIT CIGARETTES AT CHA-AM CRASH SITE

When Cha-Am police attended the scene of an accident adjacent to Phetchakasim Road in Cha-Am where a Mitsubishi pick up had hit the wall of a house and badly damaged, they found more than an injured driver.  Details of the accident were revealed during a press conference on 11th June.

Mr. Narupong Chumsawat, the 21 years old driver was detained at the scene after police found illegal cigarettes with a value of more than 6 million THB in the rear of the partly demolished vehicle.  Some 45,00 packets were recovered and found to be illegal contraband with counterfeit labelling of brands registered in Thailand.

The alleged smuggler, with a Cha-Am domicile, was arrested, although due to injuries suffered in the crash, taken to hospital where he later absconded.  He remains at large.

An arrest warrant has been issued from the Phetchaburi Provincial Court with police eager to investigate further about the involvement of others in the incident apart from the causes of the crash.
