‘COOK FOR SOS’ – A PROGRAM FEEDING HUA HIN COMMUNITIES IN NEED

SOS Thailand (Scholars of Sustenance) collects and redistributes to those in need, unused food from local restaurants and markets to those who are struggling to get by in the Hua Hin community.

The distinctive refrigerated SOS food recue vehicle is becoming a familiar sight on our streets with great cooperation from local businesses, albeit Covid-related restrictions on the operations of donor businesses has impacted the quantities of prepared food available.

The Cook for SOS Program was launched in February, aiming to engage volunteers to prepare nutritious meals for communities in need.  Since then, SOS has served 880 meals to communities in Hua Hin including Khao Tao, Malai, Fah Si Khram, Ban Mankhong and Hin Lek Fai.

The organisation is looking for people to support the Cook for SOS Program in Hua Hin.  For those with a passion for cooking and want to help people in difficult circumstances this program might just be perfect.

When local tourism is extremely low, many people are left unemployed and have no access to food. Aside from the surplus food collected, donated cooked food helps to increase the amount of food distributed to vulnerable communities.

Cook for SOS Program is simple. If you think you are capable of having extra ingredients in your kitchen and it can produce extra meals that can be served to other people, contact Ton, the Food Rescue Supervisor in Hua Hin.

Agree on terms and proportion of meals to cook and discuss the schedule of the collection. The donated food can be a simple dish to cook, any local Thai Cuisine would be preferred.

Joining the SOS program can make a real difference. A warm meal means the world for people in need to survive this pandemic.  Help SOS to help people!
