GROWING CONCERNS OVER BIG INCREASE IN HUA HIN COVID CASE NUMBERS

Another 87 new COVID-19 cases, most linked to a pub in Hua Hin, were recorded on Friday in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Provincial Governor Dr Pallop Sinhaseni told the media that most of the new infections were linked to the Maya Pub, where a concert was held on March 30th, featuring well-known singer and entertainer Joey Boy.

It was earlier reported that a woman who works at the Krystal Club bar in Bangkok’s Thonglor area, had visited the pub with her boyfriend before the concert.

Another woman has been tested positive after returning to Hua Hin after visiting Phuket.  She had stayed at a hotel next to Café Del Mar which she visited the day after a big party there which she later become learnt was the source of an outbreak in that province.

Of the new cases, the governor said that 60 have been admitted to hospitals in different districts in the province, with arrangements being made to admit the rest.

He also said that legal action would be taken against the pub if it can be proved that the outlet operated beyond the 1am closing hour.

Despite the surge in new infections, he assured that it is still safe to travel to Hua Hin, as officials have disinfected all the venues visited by the infected and those believed to be infected.
