In November 2020, a similar-looking reflective structure appeared briefly in the Utah desert, followed by the others.  Now this latest sighting has sparked the imaginations of UFO spotters, conspiracy theorists and local Stanley Kubrick fans with many noting the object’s similarity with the strange alien monolith that triggered huge leaps in human progress in Kubrick’s classic sci-fi “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

The Sheraton obelisk appearance drew speculation amongst diners at the ‘Thank Sheraton It’s Friday’ on March 26th; where could it have come from?  The shiny pillar — which protrudes around 3 metres from the grounds of the Sheraton was revealed to local media by Robin Bernhard, the Sheraton’s Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, who denied any knowledge of its origins and any association with April Fool’s Day.
