With the battle lines drawn and some electioneering already underway, some confusion has been thrown into the race for the next mayoral positions with the date remaining uncertain thanks to the current COVID-19 crisis.
The election date is yet to be announced, but was tipped to be held next month. However the Election Commission may now be forced to postpone these important municipal elections.
Mr Thitichet Nuchanat, the Election Commissioner, has commented that these local elections may need to be delayed due to the new wave of COVID-19 outbreaks and that the date should apply for the whole country.
When the Cabinet passes a resolution to hold the election, the Election Commission will announce the election date, but this will be dependent on the coronavirus situation.
As for the Hua Hin municipality positions, there are currently three groups that have announced their intentions to run, with the candidates being the incumbent mayor Nopporn Wittikul, with challengers Than Awsuwan and Udorn Olsson.
