CABLES GOING UNDERGROUND IN BANGKOK

Overhead electric cables on Bangkok’s major roads, covering nearly 50 kms, have been moved underground.

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has said the underground cables project has been transformed into an underground electric cable system as part of the government’s efforts to make Bangkok an ASEAN metropolis.

The project is expected to cover a total distance of 167 kms, focusing on necessary routes according to the train construction, key utilities, main road, and business area.

The project begs the question about how could this source of visual pollution which continues to be a blight on the landscape of many of Thailand’s cities, be removed. This problem is very evident in Hua Hin and many other locations which proclaim the beauty of their environment.
