Sunshine Soccer Asia, a joint venture between Steve Johnston, former England player Gary Stevens and Surf 102.5 FM’s Richard Buckle, is introducing a new way for those aged 50+ (men and women) to continue playing the world game that they love, even though they may have lost some of their ‘leg speed’.
‘Walking Football’ is about to be introduced to Thailand; starting in Hua Hin.
The biggest difference with the usual game of football, as the name suggests, is there is no running. Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. This includes with the ball or off the ball, Including jogging. You can ‘walk’ as fast as you want with walking described in the rules as “one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.”
Another big difference to association, or 5-a-side football, is that it’s classed as non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.
Walking Football is a unique small-sided ball game created by John Croot in 2011. It needs the same football skills and game strategies as Association Football. This is what makes it such a great sport for those who want to continue playing the sport but at a slower pace.
Steve is eager to get Walking Football started in Hua Hin. A venue with a covered roof has been planned aiming to start the first competitions in the new year. The involvement of Gary Stevens will guarantee that you will have the best introduction to the sport.
Steve’s eager to hear from all prospective players who can now express their interest by messaging him via the Sunshine Soccer Facebook page see – https://www.facebook.com/sunshinesoccerasia
