International long distance cycling teams competing in the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup, the Tour of Thailand 2020, arrived at Ratchabhakti Park on Tuesday (6th October) after competing in an early stage of the race.

Many provincial roads and intersections had been closed earlier in the day; however the largely unheralded cavalcade had caught many by surprise.

The Tour of Thailand under the patronage of the Cycling Association of Thailand covers six provinces with 114 Thai and foreign professional cyclists in racing teams competing over  a distance of over  900 kilometres starting from Samut Songkhram, via Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan before continuing on to Chumphon, Ranong and then to Surat Thani.

A warm welcome was offered by government, sporting and tourism officials as the cyclists rode along towards the forecourt where they were able to pay their respects to the great kings of Thailand portrayed by the  Park’s towering seven statues.
