The BEST IN TRAVEL POLL is a market research exercise that has run uninterrupted since 2005. It is described by SmartTravelAsia.com as “an independent, free, and fair reader poll without arm-twisting nomination fees and gala dinners – useful benchmarks not razzmatazz.”
With travel becalmed by the Covid-19 pandemic the editors decided to opt for a BEST OF THE DECADE Award based on total accumulated scores and rank tabulations 2010-2019 for airlines, airports, hotels and destinations with weighted scores for reader comments over the years, letters, their journalists’ views and focus group input.
The awards include the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin being recognised in the Asian ‘Best Family Hotels’ section. “Closing out the top five was Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas, Hua Hin, a stunning colonial confection hugely favoured for not just families but romantic getaways and weddings too. Its elegant topiary creations are an added Instagram attraction.”
With the local presence of the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, the Hyatt hotel brand came away as a clear winner as the top brand (worldwide) with “a high level of trust and confidence in service standards for both business travellers as well as leisure trippers.”
Asia’s Most Exciting City was awarded to Bangkok for “a range of spicy high-adrenalin experiences”.
