The US Open is offered referred to as the toughest test in golf and it appears as if this week’s major championship at Winged Foot will be no different.
Early reports and social media from the famed Winged Foot Golf Club indicate this week’s US Open is going to be brutal for golfers. And as Justin Thomas suggested, it might be brutal for golf fans to watch as well.
“The viewers at home are going to see some pretty bizarre stuff and probably a lot of putts and chips that make us look pretty bad,” Thomas said.
“If you’re into that stuff, then you’re going to like this week.”
The unwritten rule around the US Open is that the host course is usually set up so the winning score is somewhere around even par.
In modern golf where nearly everyone is left with short irons into greens, that means growing the rough to ridiculous lengths and increasing green speeds.
The combination of long rough and fast greens will mean higher scores, less strategy, more three-putts and very long rounds of golf.
But judging by some of the social media posts going around, it looks like it may be more brutal than usual with some predicting a winning score of +5 to +10.
