Commuters between Cha-Am and Hua Hin have noticed an unusual addition to the streetscape in recent times. Amongst the usual visual cacophony of advertising hoardings, there’s been an explosion of sunflowers; well multiple sunflower signs that is, often in groups of two or three.
The signs have been installed on the eastern verges of Phetchakasim Road from Cha-Am until 5 kilometres or so from Hua Hin. They have no words (Thai or English), any other logo or other indication of their purpose. We assume they are to promote some commercial enterprise rather than to celebrate this much loved floral emblem, said to be a symbol of happiness and optimism, but who knows?

Our less-than-extensive enquiries to answer this mystery have provided no clues to date; the ‘Sunflower Resort’ just doesn’t sound right. If you have the answer, please let us know. In the meantime, enjoy the sunny disposition of the sunflower, but please keep your eyes on the road.
