The current crisis due to covid-19 has had a huge impact on the work and funding of Phetchaburi’s Wildlife Friends Foundation (WFFT). Many animal attractions in Thailand are going bankrupt and closing down with the wild and/or exotic animals being dumped or left without proper care or food.
Owners of coconut picking monkeys are handing over their animals as they can no longer use them and even tiger farms are slowly looking for alternative places to care for the animals under their care.
The WFFT will soon welcome three adult chimpanzees from a zoo that is closing down but the number of animals on waiting lists for handover and rescue is growing by the day.
After months of construction the completion of their great ape islands is now nearing completion, made possible thanks to many generous donations.
However the WFFT income is lower than ever, and donations are urgently needed for the upkeep and feeding of the rescued wild animals at WFFT.
