The Minister of Tourism, speaking at a press conference, has been reported to say that he was supporting “a long stay visa” for foreigners who want to visit Thailand.
He gave the example of those who often come to Thailand during the winter season in their home country. The initial visa would be 90 days and can then be extended twice more.
The foreigners coming in on long stay visas are expected to be retirees who have no commitments back home. They would need to do spend 14 days in quarantine in their hotel first and then if the results are negative, they can travel around Thailand for up to 270 days.
Any tourism schemes that the Thai government launch this year will be both expensive and of minority interest. Any re-opening of borders this year will be highly controlled and only certain groups will be allowed in.
