Locate approximately 15 kilometres away on the coast from the city centre of Phetchaburi, or reachable by following the coastal road north from Cha-Am, Hat Chao Samran is a beach which has been a resort of the Thai royal family since the Ayutthaya period.
This year’s big Beach Festival offers the opportunity to experience the best of Chao Samran over 3 days from 11th – 13th September.
There is a legend that King Naresuan the Great and his brother, King Ekathotsarot, fell in love with this peaceful seaside and decided to extend their stay during a short visit. Since then, people surrounded decided to name this beach as Hat Chao Samran, meaning the Royal Leisure Beach.
The beach was highly popular during King Rama VI period, who had ordered the construction of Hat Chao Samram Palace, which finished in 1918. Today, Hat Chao Samran is a favorite place for tourists who love it as a calm and beautiful location.
The fisherman village is also an interesting spot to walk around to meet friendly fishermen and observe their daily life.
This year from 11th – 13th September is marked as the 102 years anniversary of founding of the beach as a royal destination which will be celebrated with three day festival organised by the Phetchaburi Provincial government to stimulate Thai-style tourism but to preserve the history of Hat Chao Samran.
