The ultimate menu items using the provinces iconic ingredients of pineapples and coconuts were decided at a recent event at Market Village Shopping Mall.

Promoting these ingredients in great recipes of savory-sweet dishes from pineapples and coconuts is aimed to increase the image and value of local products and so they are more likely to be included on the menus of luxury resorts, hotels and every restaurant.
Mr Phirom Nilthaya, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan presided over the exhibition and competition presented prizes to the winner of the competition. He was joined by officials from OTOP, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Prachuap Khiri Khan Chamber of Commerce, the Business Association of Hua Hin, Hua Hin Municipality, Market Village and the Hua Hin-Cha-am Chef Club. There was also a cooking demonstrations with pineapple fried rice distributed for participants to taste for free.

The winner of the mandatory menu of pineapple fried rice was Mr. Somchai Klamklomchit, chef from the Rest Detail Hotel Hua Hin, named as Sam Ao Pineapple Fried Rice. He said about the secret of the pineapple fried rice was to cook jasmine rice with coconut milk causing the rice to be more fragrant than normal steamed rice. In the process of stir-frying the rice, fish paste created a salty flavour.
The winner of the creative food category was Mr. Phisit Thongsri and Mr. Boonlue. Bunsabun, Chef from Thai Food Conservation Club named as Curry with Mussels, Pineapple and Salted Eggs.
In the category of sweet food, the winners were Mr. Kitti Khantiwong and Mr. Voranop Wongsri, Chef of Monsoon Valley, Hua Hin Vineyard Restaurant with the coconut baked cheesecake. He spoke about the flaming coconut cheesecake described as a combination of local ingredients and foreign influences to create a dish that is Thai and Western that looks delicious, tasty, and also adds toppings of pineapples.
