The Thararo Wood Handicrafts Group in Trang Province has a hit souvenir on its hands with visitors to the region eager to buy hand carved wooden souvenirs based on a likeness to Mariam, the orphaned dugong.
Tourists traveling to Trang have been visiting the Thararo wooden handicraft product group to see the wooden souvenirs being produced which are made to replicate the cuteness which has made Mariam such a celebrity.
The carvings are on sale with prices ranging from 25 baht to 3-4 thousand baht in the case of a large dugong.
