A fishing group who rented a boat to go fishing in the sea in front of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park had an encounter with a whale shark around five metres long.
The whale shark appeared on the water surface and swam to the back of the boat, creating excitement for the fishermen.
The boat was about 4 nautical miles or 6 kilometres from the shore and was drifting when the shark appeared. It stayed close to the boat for about 20 minutes with plenty of time for a photo shoot.
At the time there were very calm conditions with a depth of 20-25 metres. As commercial fishing is prohibited in the area rare marine creatures are increasingly been seen during marine excursions.
