SOME RECENT JUNGLE AID NEWS – REACHING OUT TO THE HUA YANG VILLAGE
Jungle Aid volunteers have begun to assist Hua Yang village in the Pala U area.
The population at the village, situated an hour’s travel from Hua Hin, is the home of around 400 people who are 80% Karen and 20%.Thai. About 70 school aged children attend two of the local government schools in the area.
Access to water and is limited and every 2 days they are supplied with 16,000 litres of water through a pump that runs from a dam. The village has two water tanks, which they fill up, however, this only lasts the community approximately one and a half days.
Work is progressing on installing flushing toilets which are 75% completed, although this is fund dependent.
One of the large bamboo huts is used as a gathering place, with looms set up so that the local women can weave throughout the day. The material is used to make items that they can sell such as clothing, bags or scarves.
A medical clinic has highlighted a huge need for health education with 60 people seen in a medical triage clinic. Patients presented with hepatitis, alcohol issues, lice and infected wounds. Most children had poor dental hygiene with many children missing teeth or experiencing pain.
There was also a lack of family planning support, back care issues with many adults experiencing pain.
Jungle Aid is working with the village leaders to determine how the village can be supported moving forward.
