Bangkok Hotel Fined After Hundreds of Condoms Dumped in Canal

A Bangkok hotel has been fined after hundreds of condoms bearing the hotel’s name and logo were dumped in a nearby canal.

Over the weekend, a Thai Facebook user posted a picture of the condoms floating in one of the canals – or khlongs– that split off from the Chao Praya river and wind through the western Bangkok Yai district.

Bangkok authorities visited the hotel, the West Inn. The owner and staff said they employed a private waste management company and had no idea how the condoms ended up in the canal. The hotel was eventually fined 10,000 baht.

The hotel could not be reached for comment.

“We have never seen such large amount of condoms dumps in khlongs before,” said Sansern Ruangrit from Bangkok’s department of drainage and sewerage. “We don’t know if it was intentional or an accident.”
